About Laurence Howard
I began my training in woodworking at California State University at Northridge. While there I explored some of the different traditional methods and techniques of woodworking. I completed my B.A. with a concentration in wood design.
I apprenticed for 6 years with two local cabinetmakers where I learned many of the practical cabinetry skills and design concept that have been the basis of my success in business.
In 1989 I established my own shop. I have been fortunate since then to have worked with many terrific clients. The commissions have ranged from the simple to the complex, basic book shelves to specialty cabinets. I pride myself in fulfilling the specific requirements of each client. I enjoy providing my clients with cabinetry that enhances the beauty and functionality of their homes and businesses.
I make a point of providing the extra service and attention that you sometime lose working with a very large manufacturer.
Quotes and Designs
To obtain a quote, a design drawing is required. I can provide design services, and will meet with the client to discuss their needs and take measurements of the project site before drawings are made. There is a design fee of $1oo-$300 depending on the complexity of the design. There is no fee for estimates made from drawings provided by architects or interior designers. The project estimate is determined by size, materials, finish, and complexity.
In some cases, a detailed sketch will suffice. These quotes can be provided with no fee, but are not contractual until after the site measurements and designs have been confirmed.
Upon signing the contract, a 10% deposit must be made to secure the project in the shop schedule. Progress payments may be required, and the final payment upon completion. Changes to the project design, materials, finish, and complexity may incur additional fees. These costs can also be affected by the timeliness of change requests.
I take each project as they are scheduled, and work to complete each in turn as possible.
